Safety Policy

At Skip, your safety is our top priority. We are committed to fostering a respectful and secure environment for all users, both online and offline. While we implement features and guidelines to enhance safety, it’s essential to exercise caution and use your best judgment when engaging with others.

Our Commitment to Safety

Skip is designed to connect people in meaningful ways while prioritizing user security. We continuously evolve our policies, features, and guidelines to ensure a safe dating experience. This includes:

  • Profile Verification – We encourage users to verify their profiles through our built-in verification system to help establish authenticity.
  • Reporting & Blocking – If you encounter inappropriate behavior, harassment, or a violation of our community guidelines, you can report or block users directly through the app.
  • Moderation – We use human moderation to detect and address harmful or suspicious activity.
  • Secure Messaging – We monitor and restrict the sharing of unsafe links, explicit content, or harmful messages to protect our community.
  • Community Education – Skip provides safety resources, dating tips, and articles to educate users on best practices for safe dating.
  • Background Checks -
    • Requiring a background check is optional.
    • If a match requires it, completing it is required to proceed with that date.
    • Anyone can run their own background check from Settings.
    • Who can require a background check depends on match type and the user’s selected experience.
    • In woman seeking man matches, women may require men to complete a background check before progressing a date, men cannot require a background check from women in this match type.
    • In other match types, the ability to require a match to complete a background check is available only to users who choose the “screen others” experience.
    • Background checks do not verify identity or guarantee safety, and users should still follow the meeting safety guidance below (public places, tell a friend, trust your instincts).
    • Identity Review
      • Skip may review government ID and compare it to profile photos to help reduce impersonation. Identity review is not a guarantee of identity or safety, and users should still follow safe meeting practices.
    • How long results last
      • If you complete a background check and receive a “passed” status, that status is valid for 12 months. During that period you generally won’t need to pay for another background check to continue dating on Skip. If you do not pass the background check, your account will be disabled. You may request another background check after 12 months. If you pass at that time, your account may be reactivated.
    • Badges
      • Users who receive a “passed” background check status may receive a badge on their profile indicating the user has passed a background check. This badge is not an identity verification badge and does not guarantee safety.
